Ok first, Lupe dropped Enemy Of The State: A Love Story today. Probably one of the most anticipated release in a minute. Did it live up to the anticipation? Yes, though I will say that it was quite short, and I was hoping to hear a lot more. But at the same time you cannot be disappointed with Lupe because with him it is quantity over quality. Lupe would rather give you ten great songs, than give you seventy five good songs and seventy five bad songs. But anyways lets talk about Enemy Of The State: A Love Story for a minute. For about twenty and a half minutes Lupe goes in(about two minutes are the intro, his promotion for Lazers, and the HP skit). Every single track on the CD is quality, and it makes you want more. Lupe also does something to make him stand out by making the mixtape like an old school cassette mixtape. That is why it seems like it was a good idea for him to make it so short. The standout tracks(they are all great but these standout among the rest)on the mixtape are "Angels", "Thank You", "All The Way Turnt Up", "One", and "Yoga Flame". Lupe comes through with a crazy story filled with metaphors and word play galore on "Angels", with "Yoga Flame" and "All The Way Turnt Up" he just goes in, and how can you not love the Street Fighter reference. "Thank You" is a song where he does him, his flow is precise, and his word play is beautiful:
Angels
Thank You
Yoga Flame
Ok I have to admit when everybody else was talking about Wiz Khalifa, I was kind of like ehhh. Not really ready to jump on the bandwagon like everybody else. The only previous work of his I had really been interested in was the "Starstruck" freestyle. But I finally decided to download Burn After Rolling. I must say I am finally glad that I got into Wiz Khalifa. The songs that standout to me are:
Miles
B.A.R.
Great To Be There
All My Life
Lastly me and my homeboy Will were talking about Lupe and it lead to him introducing me to XV. He has a dope sound. Kind of in the mold of Lupe, Kanye, and some of the other new generation rappers. He also has a very old school feel to him. I just got his Everybody's Nobody mixtape and will be listening to it soon. A few of the songs that I heard were crazy:
Undeniable
Come Back Down
Gobstoppers ft. Wiz Khalifa
I know everybody is pretty already up on Lupe and Wiz Khalifa but hopefully you continue to enjoy their music. Lupe music is a pleasure for me to listen to because I have to do some deep though. And if you are new to XV hopefully you are going to enjoy his music as much a I did.
